From A Kids’ Fort In The Woods To Fort Pulaski To The Lady & Sons

We left Walkabout Camp & RV Park and arrived at our new destination: The Oaks at Point South in South Carolina for our 10-night stay. This park is situated about half way between Savannah and Charleston and has plenty of places you can go and check out within a 2-hour radius. We set up camp and relaxed for a couple of days before our good friends the Skeats arrived. From that moment on, for the rest of the stay the kids had a blast knocking around together while the adults also enjoyed each other’s company.

The Oaks has been given a bad rap by a lot of full time travelers and it was time to check it out for ourselves. The staff are nice and friendly along as well as those who live in the park. Some sites are a bit on the small side but ours was just fine. The site we were in was level and that is always a nice plus. While there is no playground at this park it is surrounded by beautiful woods so, you have nature’s own playground for the kids to play in. Play, they did! They spent every day after school working on a “fort”. The park is a little run down and could do with a bit of work and some tidying up. One of the bath houses has not taken care of very well and needs to be remodeled and fixed up. The pool was closed and will not to open until Memorial Day weekend. The clubhouse, while nothing spectacular, was OK and very usable with decent free WIFI there. Cell reception was terrible (as it is with a lot of TT parks) with a lot of dropped calls and the Verizon MIFI struggled some days to work how we would have liked. However, there are some nice ponds behind the campground for those who want to fish. The roads in the park were far better than we had heard and even the morning we left, after 8 solid hours of rain, the park even though very wet, was not the swamp we were told it would be after that amount of rain. The worst problem we had at this park was the biting gnats. We were told by one person who lives there that the gnats are only bad for a couple of weeks of the year and it just happened to be while we were visiting. Over all we will return to this park next time we are going through this area.

Saturday morning the kids plus the Moms tie dyed t-shirts at the clubhouse and all had a lot of fun. Saturday afternoon we went for a little drive over to the Old Sheldon Church ruins about 15 minutes down the road. A lot of history was here on how the church building was destroyed twice: once by the British during the Revolutionary War and then again during the Civil War. On our way home from the Church we stopped at Frampton Plantation House that is also the local visitor center as well as a stop on the American Revolutionary War Trail.

Sunday morning, we held a combined family Bible study led by Ben. Then, we packed some lunch as both families headed off to Fort Pulaski which is East of Savannah. This Fort rose to fame as being completely made from bricks and was held by the Confederate Army in the Civil War. The Union however had other ideas and attacked the fort doing severe damage in a one day barrage of cannon fire. Once the cannon fire breached the outer wall of the Fort, Colonel Olmstead knew that if one shot hit the powder magazine it would mean not only the end of the Fort but the end of his men’s lives. So, he chose to surrender instead. Through this whole battle just one person was killed from both sides. After this no forts would ever be made from bricks again. The Union held Fort Pulaski for the remainder of the war and part of the fort was used as a prison to hold some high-profile Confederate prisoners for the rest of the civil war.

Monday, Jennie and Marti went off for a “Mamas only” day trip. They drove into Savannah where they took an Old Trolley Tour of the historic city that included some of Paula Deen’s personal and professional history as well as preferred seating for the Southern Buffet at her restaurant: The Lady and Sons. Before the tour Jennie had an important job to do first: Go to Pie Society to get Ian some meat pies to give him a little taste of home…Australia. Unfortunately, the shop in Savannah only had 1 (gasp, can you imagine?!?) steak & ale meat pie available. So, a mad dash was made to the nearby town of Pooler to the bakery where the pies are actually created to pick up a total of 4 family size meat pies for the Masons and 4 personal sized meat pies for the Skeats. After that mission was completed, it was all fun and having a great time. Jennie & Marti thoroughly enjoyed their tour and look forward to doing something similar in the future. While this was going on the men were home slaving away looking after all the kids.  They were going to have a BBQ but a rain storm washed away that idea so Ben ended up cooking in the Skeats’ trailer while it was raining hard outside.

Tuesday night the campground had a family movie night and we all watched Sing. They even put out free popcorn, sweets and drinks. It was an enjoyable way to spend the evening.

Wednesday there were supposed to be bad storms all day so both families spent a lot of the day up at the clubhouse. The storms really didn’t arrive until the evening and even though it was not too bad we WERE under a tornado watch for a few hours. This was our last day and night here so we packed up ready to leave early the next morning then went back up to the club house to hang out for the evening, had dinner, and all watched the movie RV which the Skeats had never seen before.

The lightning, thunder and heavy rains lasted until around 4am. So, it was a pretty sleepless night for most of us. Everyone was up early Thursday morning to hit the road…

A Thoroughly Aussie Weekend…With A Low-Country Twist!

This past weekend we left Florida after three months of hanging around in the (mostly) sun and landed at a little campground just on the Georgia side of the border near the coast called Walkabout Camp & RV Park. There, our friends the Skeat family were already set up as they had arrived a couple of days earlier. After we arrived they offered to make dinner for us. Ben suggested a crawfish boil and since none of us had tried them yet we thought why not.

So, Ian went off with Ben to pick up some of the ingredients we would need for the meal at a supermarket in nearby Kingsland which is about 15 minutes south of the campground. On the way home, Ben took Ian for a little drive around the area pointing out some of the stuff they had discovered since arriving in the area. Once the local tour was over it was off to the local fish store (which was just down the road from the campground). Here, they ran into a slight problem. The local fish store had run out of fresh, live crawfish. The store had them frozen but this would not do for Ben. He wanted them still alive. Now the men were on a mission to find fresh, live crawfish. The town of Woodbine is up the road about 10 minutes so off Ben and Ian went. It just happens to be the same route Ben took Ian on before going to the fish store. Upon arriving in Woodbine, they saw a sign as they entered town saying home of the world’s largest crawfish festival or something along those lines. Now wouldn’t you think that in a town making this claim, there would be a shop or two selling live crawfish? Nope. Not one shop at all in town sold live crawfish. So, Ben got on the old smart phone and found a place about 20 miles up the road that had live crawfish in stock. So off they went back down the way they came, along the same route near the campground thinking they would go past it and further south to the fish shop. Ben thought he better check the directions on the phone when he discovered they were going the wrong direction. So, turn around they did and went back to Woodbine on the same stretch of road they had now driven four times in the last hour. The end of the story is that yes, Ben got his live crawfish after going around in circles a couple of times and at least an extra 80 miles of driving but, the mission was accomplished. And by the way, dinner was great and both families thoroughly enjoyed the meal and fellowship. Unfortunately, the evening was cut short by these little, fly like tiny bugs called gnats that was biting the living daylights out of all us.

The next day after a nice, slow start both families decided to go for a drive of about 40 miles up the road to a National Monument called Fort Frederica. Funny thing was about 30 miles along this trip we drove past the fish store from which Ben got the live crawfish. The fort was built in the early to mid-1700’s by the British to defend its land from the Spanish. Here, we went on a ranger led tour and watched a short film about the history of the fort as well as wandered the grounds and learned more about the history of this country. It was a very nice afternoon. As we left, the women went in one car and the men in the other as Jennie set Ben another mission to meet for that night meal. The mission was homemade sausage rolls… made Aussie style and of course Ben took on the mission with no hesitation. So, the guys went off shopping once again while the ladies went back to the park so Veronica and Ally could swim. Let’s just say Ben passed the mission with flying colors! We ate were some very good sausage rolls for dinner that night.

Our two-day visit would come to an end Monday morning as it was time for the M5 Adventures crew to pack up and move on to their next destination.  Walkabout Camp & RV Park is ideal for a two or three night stop over on your way into or leaving Florida. The sites are nice and long although not very wide. The lounge area and office has plenty of Aussie memorabilia in it to look at and the owner is easy to talk to. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, he IS an Aussie. There is a small playground for kids plus a small swimming pool and a very short walk away is a river or pond you can go fishing in. There are pigs and chickens as well. Major shops are not very far away either in Kingsland, just 15 minutes away. Troy, the owner, has purchased an adjacent piece of land and is also getting ready to expand the park for more sites. We will definitely return to this park in the future.

Hanging out with friends…

Over the last month we have had the chance to either hang out with good friends at Peace River campground or to go out for the day with friends. At Peace River the Skeat family came in for one of the weekends we were there and although we don’t seem to have taken very many pictures of the weekend, we had a blast. The kids played hard and fast for the three days, while we shared meals and even went to a fulltime family potluck in the campground. Ben and Ian sneaked off for a couple of hours and watched some footy. Yes, Australian football, not gridiron as Ben just happens to be an Aussie as well. Ian enjoyed being able to have conversations with a fellow Aussie. Then after the Skeats left, a few days later the Robins family turned up for the rest of the time we were at that campground. Once again Ian was happy as of course Brad is also an Aussie and the two families get along so well together. Brody and David are like best buds even though they are 7 years apart in age. They love playing Legos and cars together all the time. The Robins family helped us celebrate David’s birthday as well. We hung out together a lot for 5 or so nights, taking, relaxing and enjoying a great meal Jill and Brad prepared for us. Going shark tooth hunting was a highlight of the weekend for our kids.

One Saturday while we had our rental car for a few days we drove down to see the Dostie family at their seasonal site at Terra Ceia, just south of Tampa Bay. After having some burgers and dogs we went off to a beach near St. Petersburg called Fort DeSoto beach. The kids once again had a blast playing in the Gulf of Mexico and on the beach. It was a great afternoon for all. That evening before starting the two hour drive home both families went to a Chinese buffet for dinner.

Last Tuesday we went out for an afternoon trip to a lake near the RV park we were staying in called Lake Louisa, it is a state park and even has camping area there that looked very nice. We may well stay there for a few nights next time we are down in Florida. We met up with three other fulltime families: the Skeats, Weltes and Andersons for the afternoon where all the kids got to hang out and have fun while the adults sat around and talked away the afternoon.

On Sunday afternoon, we met the Welte family at Lake Eola in downtown Orlando. We enjoyed a leisurely afternoon browsing the farmer’s market; took some pictures; watched the  kids play at the playground.

We are incredibly blessed to have met and bonded with so many families from around the country.

Our First Winter Doing “The Florida Shuffle”

Florida for the winter…we stayed at three main campgrounds; of course, they were all Thousand Trails. TTO (Thousand Trails Orlando), Three Flags & Peace River are known as the Florida Shuffle among Fulltime Families because we rotate between them two weeks at a time.

The one we spent the most time at was TTO (Thousand Trails Orlando). Here, we spent 6 weeks total over the winter with three two week stays. The first two weeks were over Christmas and the New Year. This park, which has over eight hundred sites was a temporary home to a lot of full time family members (FtFs) over the course of the winter. At any given time there could be at least 30 families in the park. The kids got to play a lot and make new friends as well as reconnect with old friends. They also participated in a few activities inside the park. The park is home to a lot of gopher turtles as well as other wildlife around the place. TTO is also very close to Disney World and although this year we didn’t make it to Disney World we did go to Disney Springs which is a lot like Downtown Disney in California.

During our second stay at TTO in late January we went through a bad storm where there was even a chance of a tornado. Friends arranged a Polynesian Culture event. A lovely Hawaiian family came to the park to show several types of dance. The six weeks was filled with campfires, relaxing with old friends and making new ones.

Three Flags was the second Thousand Trails park of our Florida stay. It is about 50 miles north of Orlando in a small town called Wildwood. This park is the opposite of Orlando being it is the smallest Thousand Trails park of the three and the one with the least amount of FtFs. You could say this park was a retirement village. All the people we met were very nice and a couple of older couples in the park even gave our kids gifts. They said it was great to see young people so well behaved and they just enjoyed seeing them have fun. The park was very nice and had a great pool as well.

Peace River was the third Thousand Trails park and we had a nice spot in shade most of the day and not too far away from the river. This park also had a large number of full time families in it and the kids again enjoyed having a good time with their friends. Here we participated in everything from potlucks to outdoor movie nights to just relaxing with good friends.

Below are just some of the pictures from our stay in Florida…

Happy Days…

It’s been a fun last few weeks for me and my family. We arrived at Sturbridge Massachusetts (in a Thousand Trails Park) not knowing that one fulltime family, the Barrys was already there. When the Thousand Trails employee led us to our site I was excited when I saw their trailer because it meant that we would have friends to hang out with. And that’s just what I did once my school work was done. I got frustrated when I was stuck on this one problem, only one problem! Then, another family: the Dosties, came to stay because they knew we and the Barrys were here. So we had fun, and we had a fire. Roasted marshmallows. The kids didn’t stay at the warm fire, we just all went to the dark playground. Our laughs and screams and whatever else noise we made went into the chilly night. Then it was time to start going back to our own campers with plans of seeing our friends tomorrow. And thanking the Lord for another day to live, and enjoy life with him. Well, even though I sleep all through the night, I am still sleepy in the morning. The mornings on the east coast are cold. When you go outside when the sun is coming out it looks like everything is smoking, because of the dew. During our stay in the RV Park we got to tour a military base with our friends. We got to see and climb into a Blackhawk helicopter. The Blackhawks they had, had the red crosses on them and were only used for medical purposes. But Blackhawks without the Red Cross on them can also be used for war. We saw another helicopter called a Chinook. It can carry up to 33 troops or 24,000 pounds of cargo. We got in it and you can stand straight up, well almost, my Dad can’t for he is tall. We also saw some vehicles like the Humvee, which my favorite thing about it was it had bullet proof windows. I got to get into a big army truck that can carry troops and other supplies. And an interesting fact is that the army vehicles don’t have keys, they only start with a press of a button so it makes it easy to steal one. So they chain the steering wheel so it can’t move. I had an interesting day, and enjoyed all of it.  Well, on the last day in Sturbridge with our friends, we made the most of it. Having fun and eating donuts, and hanging out in the lodge. Well we said goodbye knowing we would see them again. Our current destination is in Timothy Lakes. Thanks to all those who read my blog, I hope you enjoy it.

Our Stay at Gettysburg Farm

Well I am glad to write another blog, we just moved our trailer from Gettysburg Farm Park to Circle M. In Gettysburg I had a fun time feeding the goats, hanging out with friends, riding my bike and going places. I celebrated my 14TH birthday at Gettysburg farm. I got a fast remote control car, I tried it out and my Dad also drove it. Then we went to a buffet and ate the many good tasting foods that the buffet had to offer, my favorite food in the buffet was the fresh cooked fish with different spices on it. We were full after eating. And at the end of the day we still had room for donuts (at least I and my brother and sister) while watching a movie. In the RV Park the farm had goats, a calf, a horse, donkeys and some chickens. I liked walking over to where the goats were with some food in my hand and they would all come running to the fence and want the food. Some would push shove and buck; it was quite funny actually. Whenever I would hold out some food to the calf the goats would push him away, but eventually the goats got the hint that it was not for them. The Gettysburg battle field was a learning experience for me. And I knew that I was standing in a place that thousands of people have died for what they believed in. The thing that I liked most in the battle field was the view from Little Round Top. Little Round Top is where the Union made the biggest counter attack in the Battle of Gettysburg on the Confederates. We visited the battle field two times, and on the second day we also went to the Eisenhower home, where Ike and Mamie lived. The house was fun to see, especially what Mrs. Eisenhower collected from everywhere. I had a fun time in the historical places. Back at the Gettysburg farm I also drew, I love drawing scenery and trailers (I’m really good at drawing trailers, and if you want your house or trailer drawn just send me a picture and I will draw it for you). The weather was fine, I loved feeling the warmth of the sun on my cheek after coming out of a cold trailer, but staying in the sun for a while made me hot. Well I am looking forward to the rally next week that we are going to. There will be kids of all ages, some friends and some strangers that are going to be at the rally. Well it’s good to know that people enjoy reading my blog, it makes me feel good inside, J.

Green Mountain, North Carolina

We are currently in North Carolina, in a little thousand trails park called Green Mountain. It’s a cool park that has a lot of trees, and a little stream going through out the park. I am having fun. Mom was sick the first few days of the first week, but while Mom was sick I was out making new friends, having the time of my life. And enjoying being around kids my age. Most of my friends live in this park, so when we are on our way back down I can see them again. I played basketball with them, and rode my bike with them. It is summer vacation so when I was done with my little school work I can play with them. The second week we went on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Its 469 miles long, and we only drove 65 of that 469 miles. We stopped at some overlooks that gave some of the best views that you would ever see just driving on a normal road. We also went to some water falls that you had to walk trails to before you saw the water fall. The trail was a little difficult for Mom but she got through, and we did too. It was worth it at the end of the trail to see the water fall. The third week we just stayed home and I went bike riding every day I could, playing and spending every moment with my friends before it is time to leave this park. We got into a water balloon fight, and I had not been in one for a long time so I enjoyed every minute of it. But all my friends didn’t bother to clean the mess up, and there was a lot of balloons thrown, so I cleaned it all up. We also went to some crafts, and activities. My time spent in this park will be a great memory to me, and I am thankful you are reading my blog. See you next time.

Hey everyone, thanks for reading my blog. I’ve been enjoying myself with my family. We are currently in a shady spot in a park called Carolina Landing. But before I get into describing this park, I want to tell you about the park before this one. It was called Hidden Cove in Alabama. It was a small park with 60 spots, but we fitted in perfectly. Nice people; the weather was rainy and sunny throughout the two weeks we were there. We parked under a big tree that gave big shade. There were mostly, uh what’s it called, ahh!!! Weekenders, so it was busy on the weekends. I went fishing a couple of times, caught nothin’ though. Got a few bites, but the view was nice. Man, when a boat passed by the floating dock that I was on, it would go up and down when the waves came. There was a kid named Isaac 16, he was good at exercise. Could do pull ups, while I can only do one (But I’m still strong). I say I’m fit, but my Dad proves me wrong when after 4 laps of running I am tired already. When it rained, the outside of my tent got soaked but the inside was very dry. It’s like us sometimes, we might judge people on the outside but the inside is what counts, on any person. I flew my 3-D kite, it was flying as far as it can go. I really like when I go bare foot, the grass brushing in between my toes, the wind blowing on me, sunny skies; and God said “It is good”. Well we then drove many hours in the truck on our way to Carolina Landing. On the way we stopped at a rest stop in Georgia and I got a map of Georgia. My plan is to get a map of each state and cut them out and put them on a wall when we move into a house. We ate lunch on one of the picnic tables and when we headed back to the truck, I saw an military vehicle. I just had to take a picture. When I grow up I’m planning on going into the Marines. I have to learn a lot. You have to earn the name, not just do nothing. It’s not easy either. From the stories from my Pastor at the Manteca Church in CA, it’s very hard but if he can earn it I can too. IMG_2930 Well we made it safely at Carolina Landing, and Mom met our next door neighbor. So while we worked Mom was talking to him. He was in his 70s, and had a great, great, great, (etc.) grandfather that was on the Mayflower. Our neighbor was in the army, he fought in Vietnam and he is a good natured gentlemen. So, while we were working he gave us brownies for later, he was just kind. Well, we are having a good time, had a difficult time on our school work. But we just went swimming today, and spent time with each other. Yeah, sometimes we are so close all the time we get grumpy, but in the end its just about God, family and friends (that’s what I think). When you get the chance to travel, take it while you are still in this world. Thanks for reading  my blog.

Tennessee

Sorry everyone I’ve been very lazy in writing my blog, I have just been doing other stuff and slowly drifted off and off, and off til I forgot about it. Well, we are in Tennessee, enjoying all it has to offer. The first park we enjoyed in Tennessee was Cherokee landing. The place was a bit overgrown, but if they put a bit of work into it, then it can be something great. Nobody there except 5 or six people, but during the weeks it got up to 15 or so. There were a lot of trees, trees as far as the eye can see (well you couldn’t see that far for how tall the trees were). While staying at Cherokee Landing we went to some National Parks, like the Shiloh Battlefield and the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center. I liked both. Corinth is known as the crossroad city, and the reason why Corinth was so famous is because of its railroad junction. The junction was the nearest one, and was Corinth’s main line of food, supplies and other important things. The Shiloh battlefield was all about when the South (Confederates) left Corinth and went to fight the North (Union). Eventually the Union pushed backed the Confederates to Corinth where they started. I had fun enjoying those National Parks. It also rained when we were in Cherokee Landing, and I like to smell the outdoors after it rains. Wet grass, a little bit of wind against my body, what more could you ask for. I also went fishing in Cherokee Landing, but didn’t catch a thing. The water was clear so I could see about 3 dozen minnows come and devour my bait in 3 seconds, but I still had fun. We stayed in Cherokee landing for 12 days. Then, we drove to Natchez Trace where we are currently staying. It is a big park that has a couple of hills to go over in order to get to our site. There are a lot of permanent residents where there is a view of the lake. That was a bummer because I was hoping we could park in one of those. Natchez Trace is beautiful…a lot of birds, lizards, flowers, trees, water and people. It’s due to rain anytime, it’s very misty. We also visited Napier Mine, Meriwether Lewis Death & Burial site, Jackson Falls, an old tobacco farm and other places. My favorite was the tobacco farm because we drove two miles of the original route of the Natchez Trace. We are having a good time so far. I’m enjoying my days of traveling…Here is my first attempt at taking a selfie.IMG_2842

Sorry it’s been soooooo long…

Let’s catch up a bit on our adventures…

October 5-11

This week we did a lot. The first day of this week we spent our last day with our friends (because we were leaving the next day). We played, and about around two we went over to their camper and had ice cream cookie sandwiches to celebrate one of our friend’s birthdays. We almost played with one another for every second of the day, except for lunch and dinner. We played all the way until bed time. The next day we packed the trailer with all our stuff from outside. Then Dad and Mom hitched the trailer to the truck, and we pulled out of the campsite. We left Wilderness lakes and drove about a hundred miles to Oakzanita.

IMG_1884

When we got there Mom and Dad parked the fifth wheel and then we set up camp. The next morning which was Wednesday it was super cold. It was so cold I put on pants, shirt and a jacket. But it got hotter as the day went on and I was hot in my pants. On Friday I finally finished my Lego pirate ship (it was minifigure scale). I was proud of myself for what I had done. The next day we went to the lodge that was in the camp ground. It had over 30 puzzles, a tv you could watch for one hour, board games and books to read. And it so happened that we were there to do a craft, because the lodge has schedules for activities. And we were the only ones there. After the craft I was working on a puzzle that was already out on the puzzle table. That was a cool lodge to be in. And on Sunday we did not go to church because we were all sick, so that was not much fun. Well that is all for this week, and I can see the next one will be better.

October 12-18

This week was an interesting week. On Wednesday we went to the Creation Earth History Museum.

IMG_1887

A dinosaur was about to eat My sister. Then she bowed to it and it did not eat her, (I’m just kidding). We entered in and we were waiting for our friends to come, because we were meeting them there and experiencing the Museum together. The first thing we did was the Tabernacle Theater, it was a presentation about the tabernacle. And this Museum was bible based, so there was not anything in there that was evolution based, there was stuff that was explaining how evolution was not real. The cool thing I liked was the model of the Tower of Babel, what man thinks it looked like. And did you know that the Roman Empire was the biggest empire in the world. Also there was this thing that told how many heart beats you have in a minute, mine was 88. There was a lot of cool information. So if you have not been to the Creation and Earth History Museum go when you have the time. And after we were done with the museum we had a picnic and played with our friends at a park. After a long time of playing we left. But we would be seeing them on Saturday at a pumpkin patch. We could not wait till Saturday, and soon enough it came. We went to the pumpkin farm. We arrived and waited for our friends. They came and we started looking around. There were animals, food, stores, pumpkins and a lot of people. As we walked together with our friends, many pictures were taken and we laughed and had a jolly time together. When we had to leave, we did not whine because we knew if we whined there would be a little chance we would see our friends again. That was a day that would stay in my memory forever. On Sunday we tried the church in the lodge. It was fine to me. And after church we stayed and did a puzzle. And we pretty much played the rest of the day, because there was no evening church at the lodge. That is all I have to tell you for this week.

October 19-25

This week has been fun. The first day of this week was normal, we did laundry day which of course I do not like. But of course at the end of all the work it is good to have clean clothes. On Wednesday we went to the Fleet Science center. When we arrived and we paid to go in it had a lot of cool experiments. The first thing we tried was the heart monitor, it told me how many beats my heart makes, it was 88. The next thing we did was slap the wall to make music, when you tapped the wall it made music. Then a machine took a picture of our face and we put other noses and ears that were on the screen to make a different face on us. Then the other thing I did was a boat race that slid down different boards. Did you know that you have over 100 cells in your body? Then we moved onto a part of the science center that was about our body. Did you know that you nerve tissue consist of two types of cells, one is called Neurons and the other is called Gorals. And did you also know that the muscles throughout your body and your heart are made of muscle tissue. There are many different tissue throughout your body, some are even on your skin. There are even smaller stuff that goes through tiny sells. I learned more cool stuff in the body section. After the body section we did other experiments.  Did you know that in order for a bird to fly it has to overcome its own weight with gravity? Then we went to a show that was going to be messy. When everybody came we sat and watch. He used chemicals I don’t know how to pronounce and then he put red food coloring in it and he put one last thing in and it blew up. Then I thought that would be a great thing for a volcano. After we were done with the Fleet Science Center we walked across from the Science Center into the Natural History Museum. The First thing I saw was a Redwood tree stump.

IMG_1936

It was taller than my Dad and was wider than the front of our truck, it fell down after 654 years.  After Mom and Dad paid the next thing I saw was a pendulum. Did you know the pendulum direction of swing does not spin with the Earth? The next thing I saw was a sculpture of an Albertosarus, an Albertosarus uses its big jaws and big teeth to capture its prey. IMG_1945IMG_1946Have you ever wondered what those small arms are on a T rex is for, it’s still a mystery today? The next dinosaurs I saw was a Lambeosaurus, a Lambeosaurus uses its two strong limbs to escape its predators. And did you know that you can learn a lot from a fossil that was thousands of years old. There was this other room that had a cool fact, it said that deer run on their toes. Other rooms had fossils of sea lions, sea dinosaurs, interesting shells, prehistoric animals such as a saber tooth skull and really other cool stuff. The room I most liked was the top fourth floor. It had pictures of all kinds of bugs. My favorite was the Blaze of Bees. The 3rd floor had skulls of all sizes some big, small and tinier than a big bread crumb. The last room we were in was supposed to be looking like a dessert. It had interesting facts like a cactus can hold water in its core to survive the years of drought. And I spin a wheel and it landed on a weasel, so Dad said I was a weasel. And I listened to sounds of bats of all kinds. There was a man made home that was for ground owls, I thought that was pretty cool. Then I saw a skull of a whales head, it was bigger than our truck. Then after we were all satisfied with all the information given to us we went to eat our lunch and the headed home. And I learned a lot that day, and I want to come back when I can. And on Friday we went to the gold mine. We actually saw real gold when we were in the shop. And we went through the gold mine cave. We had fun. We panned for gold in troughs. After a cool day in the cave (it was cold in the cave) we went home. On Sunday we went to the church in the lodge. We had a hour service. Then I tried to finish the thousand piece puzzle that was on the puzzle table in the Lodge because we were leaving tomorrow. I did not finish it. But after dinner on Sunday we watched Princess Bride for a movie. Then we went to bed. Well that was our week. It was a learning fun week. I hope you all like my blogs. I appreciate your comments on my blog, my Mom reads them to me.

October 26 – November 1

On Tuesday this week we woke early to pack up the trailer so we can go to our next stop, called Palm Springs. After we ate breakfast and packed our bikes, chairs, a table and our dog’s pen when all the loading was done Mom and Dad hooked the trailer up and I emptied the sewer with the help of Dad. After the sewer we drove 4 hours to Palm Springs. When we arrived at the park there was a lot of palm trees. It was hard for Mom and Dad to park the trailer with the palm trees in the way. But they did it. After we unpacked the trailer we ate dinner and I went to bed early because I was tired. The next day was shopping day. We went shopping at WinCo. We got everything we needed. We have been going to Winco for about five years, I guess. On Thursday after my school work I used the bark that came off the palm trees to build a little hut for a wild rabbit. When it was almost finished I went to bed. On Friday morning the half built hut fell down because of the heavy wind last night. It is so windy at Palm springs that when the wind blows dust comes with it. On Friday night at the Lodge in the RV Camp there was a movie and popcorn. Since it was Halloween season we watched Casper. It was a good movie for me. I liked the end when Casper turns into a human and walks down the middle of all the teenaged kids and all the kids were looking at him because he was so handsome. And the best thing about that is that we were the only ones at the movie. On Saturday we went to the lodge to go to a craft. There was four different crafts. One was coloring one was making, the other was a spider with a lolly pop and some pipe cleaners. The third one was cutting and putting stickers on the cut out paper. And the Fourth one was making cookies and eating them, and watching a movie during all of this. Those crafts were good and we went home and showed Mom who’s head was hurting. Mom said she liked them. On Sunday, we visited a Sister church in Coachella. We met old friends and we met some from church camp we went to a few years back. After a good preaching of the pastor and a few songs we went home. And that night after eating grilled cheese sandwiches and soup we watched RV for movie night. And that was all for the week.

November 2-8

This week has been fun for me, I met these two boys that were in Palms Springs. They were really nice and fun to be around. I played pickle ball with them, they taught me how to play because I did not know how the game went. Then after a couple of good games of pickle ball I asked my Dad if we could play shuffle board, he said yes and we three went over to the shuffle board area. I had fun playing with the boys and at the same time I learned a lot about them. Then it was time for dinner, so I said goodbye and went to eat dinner. On Tuesday we went to Joshua Tree National Park. It was spectacular, I saw different kinds of plants like the Cholla Cactus, Creosote Bush, Mojave Yucca which is the Joshua Tree and many others. The Cholla Cactus has a lot of spikes that are very easy to go in but really hard to come out. We saw little wild life such as a darkling beetle, a lizard and a ground squirrel. Lizards have to lay in the sun to get warm, because they can’t control their body heat like we do. Did you know that the bighorn sheep climbs the rocky hills to escape danger and his enemies? The best thing about Joshua tree that I liked was the Keyes View. It was amazing it showed on a sign where Palm Springs was and I could see the city below. It was just another of one of God’s majestic creations, imagine how much more beautiful heaven would look like. You should go see it yourself so you can experience it. And that was a fun day at Joshua Tree. On Wednesday after my school work and grocery shopping and my chores, I played pickle ball with my Dad. He beat me of course, and the highest I got was two out of eleven, but never the less I had fun. Then after pickle ball we had a good dinner of potatoes covered with melting cheese, some bacon, sour cream and baked beans. On Thursday we went out to hunt down thrift stores to get me and my siblings clothes for winter. We went to about six different thrift stores. When we thought we found the right size of clothes we tried them on and they did not fit. But we kept on searching. But we first stopped for lunch at a Chinese buffet, it had all the Chinese food I liked. After a delicious mixture of Chinese food we kept on looking. Eventually we found all the clothes we needed except pants for me, we were going to do it another day because we all wanted to go home. On Friday we went to bingo at the lodge, I won four times and got four different kinds of M & Ms. Then later at the lodge we went to see a movie, I met my friends that I played pickle ball with earlier on in the week. We watched “Second Hand Lions”, it was a good movie that made you laugh. But the next night we came back for another movie in the lodge. It was called “Parental Guidance”, It was so funny that you would laugh your pants off. This was a fun week for me and I loved it, and I hope all you readers like my blog. Thanks for taking the time to read it. See you all next week. IMG_2023
